Kenneth Vick, flight instructor

Why train with me?

I’m Kenneth Vick, a flight instructor (CFI/CFII) and commercial pilot based at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport (KFXE). I teach in High Speed Aviation Flying Club aircraft and in students’ own airplanes.

Before teaching in the cockpit, I was a small boat instructor in the U.S. Coast Guard, where I completed the Instructor Development Course, which is formal training in professional adult learning methods, and spent years putting it into practice. So I don’t just know how to fly. I know how to teach. That experience shaped my approach: be patient, explain things clearly, teach methodically, and make safety part of every lesson.

I want you to understand not just what to do, but why you’re doing it. My goal is to create an environment where you feel comfortable asking questions, working through challenges, and building confidence as you learn. Whether we’re developing a new skill or sharpening an existing one, the focus is on steady progress and sound judgment, not just getting through the lesson.

I’m also CPR and first aid certified and hold an FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot certificate.

Pricing options

Pay as you go, or save with a block package. Instruction rates are shown below. Discovery flights are the only flights booked through me, and the $229 price includes the aircraft. Once you start training, you join High Speed Aviation Flying Club, rent aircraft directly from the club (currently about $197/hr), and pay me separately for instruction. The club's membership requirements, rules, rates and fees apply and may change. Training in your own aircraft? You just pay my instruction rates.

Example: 1 hour of pay-as-you-go flight = about $197 club aircraft rental (paid to the club) + $65 instruction (paid to me) = about $262

Pay-as-you-go

$65/hr instruction

Pay for each lesson as you fly. Good for flight reviews, IPCs and occasional lessons.

Frequently asked questions

Don't see your question? Just ask.

How much does flight training cost?

Total cost depends on aircraft rental, instruction time, and how often you fly. My instruction rate is $65/hr, paid to me. Once you're a student, you rent aircraft directly from High Speed Aviation Flying Club (currently about $197/hr) under the club's membership, rules and fees. For example, a 1-hour pay-as-you-go flight is about $197 + $65 = $262. Discovery flights are the exception: the $229 price includes the aircraft and is booked through me. We can go over a realistic budget for your goal at your discovery flight.

How long does it take to get a pilot's license?

The FAA minimum for a Private Pilot certificate is 40 flight hours under Part 61, though most students need more. How long it takes depends mostly on how often you fly, and flying two to three times a week is usually the quickest and cheapest way to get there.

Do I need a medical certificate?

You'll need an FAA medical certificate (or to meet BasicMed requirements later on) before you fly solo. A third-class medical from an FAA Aviation Medical Examiner (AME) is the usual starting point for private pilots. Get it done early, and you don't need one for a discovery flight.

Can I train in my own airplane?

Yes. I'll fly with you in your own aircraft, and you only pay my instruction rates. If you don't own a plane, we'll fly High Speed Aviation Flying Club aircraft at FXE.

Do I need to join the flying club?

For ongoing training, yes. I teach in High Speed Aviation Flying Club aircraft at FXE, so students in a training program need a club membership, and the club's rules and fees apply. I'll help you get set up. A discovery flight doesn't require a membership, so you can try it first.

Do you offer drone (Part 107) training?

Yes. I'm an FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot and offer training to help you prepare for the Part 107 knowledge test, required to fly drones commercially in the U.S.

Can I fly with you if I already have a certificate?

Yes. I offer flight reviews, IPCs, instrument and commercial training, and high-performance and complex endorsements for licensed pilots (in your own qualifying aircraft).
